Learn to Row

Adult men and women (21+):  Are you interested in…

      Getting more fit?

      Making new friends?

      Enjoying the “great outdoors”?

      Learning a new skill?

If you answered YES to any of these, Northern Virginia Rowing Club invites you to LEARN TO ROW with us this summer!

Rowing is a total body, low impact workout that surpasses any other sport. Rowing incorporates the use of your legs (70%), core (20%) and upper body (10%) while providing an aerobic and/or anaerobic workout. Rowing is also ideal cross-training for other sports and activities.

Please note: If you have not been recently active in strenuous sports activities, then we highly recommend consulting a doctor before coming out to row. Rowing is a full-body exercise that includes intense and sustained exertion, as well as the lifting of heavy equipment. (A rower needs to be able to lift 30 lbs overhead then carry that weight at shoulder height when moving large boats to and from the water.)

The Learn to Row (LTR) program is designed to take adults (21 and older) from never having been in a boat to rowing by 8s by the end of the session. No one is too old (members range from their 20s to 70s) and no experience is necessary! Novice coxswains are welcome too.

This is the perfect opportunity to try something new for a few weeks to see if you like it - and if you do (which we know you will!) - you can keep rowing with us, and your new friends, throughout the summer and fall.

The program costs $225 for 9 sessions. Attendance at every session is encouraged—the more you attend, the more you learn! LTR graduates are invited to join our Novice rowing program at the end of the three week session at a prorated cost to further develop your rowing skills, fitness, and friendships through the summer and fall.
